UniVerseCity is a school and a city for mixing engineers. You learn and prove your skills on the Campus. You meet artists, producers and work in the City. Creating an account is free.
The Campus
For mixing engineers, from first steps to expert.
The City
For engineers, artists and producers.
How they connect: every plaque you earn on the Campus appears on your City profile. Artists don't have to take your word for it: they see what you've proven, and hear your mixes.
How the Campus works
You don't need any experience to start. Every level follows the same four steps.
Every level starts with lessons: plain-language text and sound examples you can switch between while they play.
Take any test as often as you like. After every answer you see what was right and why. Nothing counts yet.
When you're ready, take the ranked version: one try per test per day, in full screen. Pass it on 3 different days and the test is cleared.
Clear every test of a level (and from Gold up, a mix reviewed by people) and the plaque is yours. The next level opens.
The way we teach
Most tutorials teach you to boost a band by 10 dB, sweep until something sounds horrible, and cut it. With a 10 dB boost, everything sounds horrible. You end up cutting what was fine and tiring your ears.
Here you learn to listen to a track the way it is, hear what's out of balance, ringing or fighting, and make only the moves the song needs. That's how experienced engineers work, and it's what every lesson and test trains.

One band of this groove is boosted by 10 dB. Flip between flat and boosted, then name the band.
Press play, then flip between Flat and Boosted.
Inside one test
This is what goes into a single test, and why it trains your ears instead of just quizzing them.
Heavy compression on the drum bus. Listen to the first moment of each hit.
Press play, flip between Compressed and Dry, then answer.
